ABOUT THE ARTIST
Semi-precious gemstones from all over the world. Pearls in many hues. Shells, mother of pearl, vintage glass from 1900 - 1950, sterling silver, and vermeil. These are the ingredients in Diane's beautiful handcrafted necklaces and earrings: unique, elegant designs for the sophisticated woman. Her pins make a dramatic statement combining vintage pieces with crystals and tassels. Before she turned to designing jewelry, Diane was immersed professionally in the art museum world for many years. Her wide knowledge of art history and special love of paintings fueled her interest in distinct color combinations and fascinating textural contrasts. As Diane has said, "I love color, and I try to create harmonious and poetic combinations of different hues from the materials I gather from around the globe. My preference is for bold and dynamic designs that a woman can wear to 'make the outfit' as well as showcase her assured, elegant self." "Although color is my passion and the overwhelming reason for the choices I make in designing my jewelry, rhythm and pattern are also important to me. As a result, I rarely have the same beads follow each other in a row. I look for a different syncopation. Texture matters, too, so that I may contrast smooth with faceted to provide a play of light and shadow." "I love combining new and vintage pieces, as for example semi-precious gemstones with vintage Lucite. It is the overall composition that matters most to me, so that if all the elements I choose come together in an artistic way, I am pleased, and feel that I have achieved a piece worthy of your consideration."
